Huu-ay-aht First Nations
The Huu-ay-aht First Nations, one of the Nuu-chah-nulth speaking tribes, encompass some of the richest portions of Vancouver Island's remarkable environment. Islands, bays, beaches, streams, rivers, and vast forests, hills and mountains, all form part of this unique landscape. The Huu-ay-aht people have a long and proud history in their traditional territories extending back to the beginning of time.
B.A. Blackwell and Associates Ltd. was retained as a forestry advisor during the Maa-nulth Treaty negotiations and worked closely with the Huu-ay-aht chief and council to negotiate tenure rights that provide a viable economic future for Huu-ay-aht First Nations. Blackwell has also provided forest valuation services to support the purchase of private timberlands and the company has conducted analysis and facilitated a review of Huu-ay-aht sustainability principals and their application to treaty settlement lands and acquired tenures.
