Forestry Research
B.A. Blackwell and Associates Ltd. offers "turn-key" forest research services, including experimental design, working plan preparation, trial establishment, measurement, data analysis, and reporting in a range of formats from operational memos to refereed journals.
Microclimate monitoring
We program, install, and monitor electronic dataloggers (Campbell Scientific and Unidata equipment) and process data in a variety of formats. We also measure understory light levels.
Soil sampling
We conduct detailed soil sampling for physical and chemical properties, soil solution chemistry, and soil moisture.
Regeneration performance
We evaluate regeneration performance in relation to silvicultural treatments and ecological factors.
Seedling physiology
We monitor seedling water status, including measurement of stomatal conductance, pre-dawn moisture stress, and leaf area.
Tree nutrition
We design, establish, measure, and analyze fertilization screening trials.
Carbon and biomass measurements
We measure coarse woody debris, site biomass and estimate site carbon and nutrient budgets.
