Bob Green
Bob Green has over 27 years experience in the field of forest ecology and its application to forest management. He has played a key role in the development of the provincial biogeoclimatic ecosystem classification system, including developing methodologies for data collection and processing, deriving and refining the classification at local and regional levels, and preparing ecologically based management interpretations. He applied this knowledge to authoring the field guide to site identification and interpretation for the Vancouver Forest Region. He is a specialist in terrestrial ecosystem mapping, and has mapped over 1.3 million hectares of coastal B.C. since 1996, developing innovative methods for conducting cost-effective, high quality mapping over large areas. He has focused on the management value of this data, developing a number of GIS-based applications addressing management issues. This includes site index adjustment for forest-level yield analysis, operability and trafficability analysis, landscape-level tree species suitability, fertilization planning, and conservation planning. Bob has also applied his expertise to wildfire management in developing algorithms for processing wildfire threat rating, analysis of historic fire regimes, and provincial-level fire risk assessment.
Bob has extensive experience in training operational staff in applying ecological principles to forestry decision-making, and has frequently provided advice on complex silvicultural prescription issues. He has also planned and conducted all phases of research studies related to forest productivity and ecological factors, site preparation, and high elevation reforestation.
