B.A. Blackwell and Associates Ltd, is an integrated forestry consulting firm with offices in Williams Lake and North Vancouver, B.C. We currently have an opening in our Williams Lake office for a Project Forester.

B.A. Blackwell and Associates was formed in 1989 and provides consulting services to a wide variety of clients by combining expertise in forest management, forest and fire ecology, forest engineering, silviculture and research. In 2007, B.A. Blackwell was awarded Forests for Tomorrow (FFT) Recipient Agreements in the Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, and Quesnel Timber Supply Areas.

Position

We are seeking an innovative and knowledgeable forester to take on a leadership role within our growing company. The position will be based in Williams Lake and will largely focus on developing the FFT program. The position will report to the Williams Lake Operations Manager. The Project Forester will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a wide range of forestry projects including but not limited to:

Forests for Tomorrow:

Planning and budgeting FFT projects in the Cariboo/ Chilcotin region
Preparation of site plans and stand management prescriptions for FFT projects
Development and enforcement of safety standards and environmental procedures
Contract management and supervision
Supervision of staff and summer students
Quality Assurance

BA Blackwell has a large client base and there is the opportunity to be involved in any number of projects throughout the province:

Forest Fertilization
Restoration planning
Ecological mapping and classification
Detailed ecological assessments (DEIF certification an asset)
Silviculture Strategies
Private land timber valuations
Forest Practice Audits
Urban Forestry
Environmental Monitoring

Desired Qualifications

A university degree in Forest Resource Management/Forest Sciences, with a minimum of two years of solid experience.
Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (or eligible for registration).
Knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Access, and Arcinfo/Arcview GIS applications
Excellent writing and organizational skills
The ability to communicate effectively with the public, Government, and forest stakeholders,
Proven entrepreneurial and managerial skills
The ability to train and supervise both staff and contractors

Location

This position will be based in Williams Lake. Projects will involve fieldwork and possible travel throughout British Columbia.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
