Research Services
A "turn-key" research service including experimental design, working plan preparation, trial establishment, measurement, data analysis, and reporting from operational memos to referenced journals.
- Microclimate monitoring: program, install, and monitor electronic dataloggers (Campbell Scientific and Unidata equipment) and process data in a variety of formats; measure understory light levels.
- Soil sampling: conduct detailed soil sampling for physical and chemical properties, soil solution chemistry, and soil moisture.
- Regeneration performance: evaluate regeneration performance in relation to silvicultural treatments and ecological factors.
- Seedling physiology: monitor seedling water status, including measurement of stomatal conductance, pre-dawn moisture stress, and leaf area.
- Tree nutrition: design, establish, measure, and analyze fertilization screening trials.
- Coarse woody debris: measure coarse woody debris; and sample and estimate complete site carbon and nutrient budgets.
- Effects of slashburning on soils, vegetation, fuels, and water quality
- Partial cutting systems for regenerating dry sites in the coast-interior transition
- Regeneration performance on rehabilitated roads
- Alternative silviculture systems for coastal Douglas-fir ecosystems
- Effects of fire and site preparation in the conversion of multi-storied brush fields to coniferous plantations
- Site preparation to improve Douglas-fir performance on salal-dominated sites
- Regeneration light relationships of coastal and interior tree species for the design of alternative silviculture systems
- Enhancing site productivity of coastal lowland sites in the Queen Charlotte Islands
